The Characters of Whispering Wishes

Wednesday, February 19, 2014
Hi everyone!  Look at me!  I'm blogging TWO times in a row!  Whoot!  I'm on a roll.  So today I thought I would share with you my actor inspirations for my work in progress.  If you haven't seen the interview where I was asked about what I'm working on next, let me tell you a little bit about Whispering Wishes, coming this spring.

Aspen thinks her best friend Mischa is a tiny bit loony.  Mischa is a new age hippie that owns her own metaphysical store.  In case you aren't aware of what New Age means, let me tell you what it means for Mischa - she believes that everyone should strive to awaken the god within themselves to bring peace and harmony to the world.  While Aspen is a cynic to Mischa's beliefs, she supports her friend and goes along with most of her little suggestions and encouragements.  One of them being the new moon list of wishes Mischa insists Aspen needs to create.  Her instructions?  On the night of the new moon, Aspen is to make a list of wishes - affirmations of what she wants in her life.  She should reflect on them, meditate on them and then burn it sending her wishes into the universe.  Aspen may not believe in it, but she heeds Mischa's wishes - besides what's the worst that can happen?

Whispering Wishes is a romantic comedy and I'm having fun writing it so far!  Here are the actors that remind me of my characters!

Main character - Aspen

The best friend - Mischa

The love interest - Wes

So what do you think???

I really need to write on this blog more often

Tuesday, February 18, 2014
With the new changes to Facebook, I think it is way past time I start writing on this here blog some more.  For some reason, I always forget about it.  I've promised before to write more, but I haven't kept to that, but I really am going to try this time.  I guess I'm just afraid that everyone will just find it boring - it's not like I have the most super exciting life or anything.  You'll probably be all...

I keep busy with my daughter's and their activities.  I also work full time and so I'm constantly trying to balance, work, my personal life and writing.  It can get pretty crazy to be honest, fortunately, I have an awesome husband who is an amazing father and he is there every step of the way, often times, doing what he can to give me time to write, etc.  So, while my posts may not always be super exciting, they will be a peek into my life and perhaps you can get to know me better through them.  If you want to :)  Some of them will likely contain lots of Supernatural gifs like these because well... I love the show, can't get enough of Sam, Dean and Castiel, and because they're....

Of course, all book news will be posted here as well.  Right now, I'm really busy writing Whispering Wishes.  This romantic comedy is a lot of fun and ideas will come to me that just make me laugh so much.  I really hope they make you laugh too when you read it!  I hope to start having little teasers as I write it here and there.

So tell me, what kind of things do you like to read on author's blogs?  Are there certain topics that you prefer or that you like to see?  I would love to hear from you!

I hope you all have a great day!  I will be back soon, and in the mean time, did you tune into the first Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon's last night?  This part, had me cracking up!

XO,
Jen

Synopsis for Pretty Little Lies

Wednesday, April 17, 2013
In case you missed it, I shared the synopsis for Pretty Little Lies on my Facebook page.  Take a look!

A little lie can change the course of everything. . .

Like every other eighteen-year-old in love, Olivia has dreams of spending forever with the love of her life. Luke is all she’s ever wanted – until she overhears something she was never meant to. In a matter of seconds, Olivia’s heart is shattered.  Handling it the only way she knows how - she runs- leaving behind her family, friends and the boy she loves.

Seeking comfort and an escape, Olivia finds it in resident bad boy Deacon. He’s everything Luke isn’t – and that’s fine with her.

Now, five years later, Olivia is older, wiser and headed back to Chicago looking forward to a fresh start and reconnecting with her best friend Pyper. What she doesn’t expect, is to come face to face with the boy she left behind and discover that even though she may have left, her feelings for him didn’t.

Can Olivia put aside the pain in her heart and listen to Luke? Will the ties to her past ever let her go, or will she continue to let her life be affected by pretty little lies?

Coming in June, 2013

A Feeling Like No Other

Monday, April 1, 2013
I finally finished my first draft.   I was so close and I was up until the wee hours of the morning writing, writing, writing because I could just taste the ending.  I was so excited and I couldn't have fallen asleep even if I wanted to!

When it was done, I even typed the words "THE END" just for the symbolism and to experience typing them.  You see, I've always dreamed about writing a book.  Since I can remember I have been a book lover.  I got the book bug early in my youth and that love only continued to develop as did my taste in books, over time.  I would always have a book on my person somewhere.  I still do even now.  It may not always be a paperback but you will definitely find one I'm in the middle of on my  phone or iPad.  I can't get enough.

When I was about nine I entered a book writing contest in school.  It was about a girl with a pet unicorn and she was so sad when she had to return the unicorn to the wild and say good-bye.  I was one of the finalists for my school and I went to the state capital for the state competition.  I didn't win there, but still remember the excitement at going to the event with my mom and seeing my book proudly displayed with people walking by and looking at it.  I treasured my little book for years.  That is until my brother or sister, not sure which one was the culprit, got hold of it and made it their own little coloring book.  Brats!  (Love you two hooligans!)

I had more "great ideas" come to me than I can count over the years.  I started and stopped more stories than I care to admit sure that each time it was finally "the one."  But then out of nowhere, I had an idea that just wouldn't let me go.  I tried to ignore it, forget about it, kept remembering those other failed attempts and just blew it off.  The great thing is... it wouldn't let me.  That idea of mine was persistent, never letting up, never letting me forget and instead kept developing into more in my mind until I had no choice but to start writing it down.  It took on a life of its own.

As a great friend told me, I took what started as just an idea and had the power to create a story out of that idea on paper and made it work.  That's an awesome feeling.  The funny thing is when I finished, when I wrote those two little words, I was SO EXCITED!  The problem?  It was well after three o'clock in the morning and there was no one around to tell!  I didn't let that keep me from fist pumping and doing a happy dance though.  I even woke my husband to share the news and bless him, he was as excited as he could be at that hour!

I have no idea if people will love my little story.  I hope they do, of course I hope they do, but more importantly, I do.  I am SO in love with my story and my characters but the best part?  I followed my dream and accomplished something I've always wanted to try and so because of that, no matter what, I'm a winner.  And you want to know something?  It is a feeling like no other!
