COVER REVEAL

Monday, May 5, 2014
I'm so so so so excited to share with you the cover of my good friend Gypsy Rae Choszer's first novel.  I've been fortunate enough to be there while she wrote her novel and I couldn't be more proud of my friend!

  10335758_10152787089623032_499089908_n

For Avery Montgomery, the devastation of losing her parents in a tragic accident has left her completely shattered. As she begins to pick up the pieces of her once perfect life, she uncovers a secret that will forever change her—she’s adopted! In a search for answers, Avery ventures to Portland where she rents a room from Jonah, a quirky artist who quickly becomes her best friend. His house puts her in close proximity to the metaphysical shop run by her birth mother, the free-spirited Marianna Hutchins. Avery enters The Crystal Moon fully intending to confront Marianna, but instead she chickens out and inquires about a job. She's hired; yet remains leery about confessing her secret. As Avery settles into town, she has an embarrassing encounter with Gabe, the incredibly attractive man who works a few doors down. Despite the awkward introduction, there is undeniable chemistry, but after a recent heartbreak all he’s looking for is friendship. Everyone deserves a second chance. Will Avery get hers with a new family? Will Gabe allow himself a second chance at love? Will they embrace their new relationships, or will they simply decide to take a rain check?

Gypsy Rae Choszer grew up in valley below Mount Timpanogos where she watched the apricot trees in her backyard bloom every spring. When she was eighteen she packed her bags and ran away to the exotic locale of Mesa Arizona to begin the work of being an adult.
Gypsy’s love of reading began as a child when her mom would take her to their local library and let her bring home stacks of whatever she wanted.
In her spare time she likes to explore photography, make jewelry, and eat chocolate.
When she’s not writing, you can find Gypsy hanging out at home with her husband and best friend, their three children, a neurotic dog, and four chickens. However, Gypsy knows her family will not be complete until she brings home a peacock and a goat.

WHISPERING WISHES COVER REVEAL

Thursday, April 10, 2014
I am SO THRILLED to show you all the cover for my new novel, Whispering Wishes releasing on May 28, 2014.

Here is the summary of Whispering Wishes - Be careful what you wish for...

Normally, Aspen Edwards will do anything for her free-spirited best friend, Mischa, but this feels like a bit much. The plan is simple, all Aspen has to do is write down a few affirmations and recite them during the New Moon. But as skeptical as Aspen is, a promise is a promise. So, she whispers each wish to the universe, pondering the possibilities of "what if." Who wouldn't want a promotion at work, a new home, or to become an irresistible sex goddess?

But Aspen’s luck doesn't change with the wishes, or the wind. Each of her whispered prayers produces disaster. She gets fired. Her car breaks down. She gets kicked out of her house. And of course there is the crap icing on the cake of doom, falling for flirtatious and sexy, Wes, who sees her as nothing more than his “little sis”. It might not be so bad if his house weren't the only place she had to go.

Unbeknownst to her, the universe has a few tricks up its sleeve, and Aspen's bad luck streak might just be putting her right where she needs to be!

I absolutely adore this cover.  I knew even before I started writing the book, what I wanted the cover to look like.  I had saved examples on my secret board in Pinterest and when it came time to talk about the cover concept with my graphic designer Laura of Bookfabulous Designs, I was very specific with what I wanted.  Blowing glitter, and lots of tulle.

Initially, the concept was to have the model, Sarah sideways, dress gathered, and to keep it a profile picture and I was going to cut off her head.  But she is so gorgeous that I couldn't do it.  I changed my mind, and I'm so glad I did, because the cover (and Sarah) made it look beautiful.

I had so much fun attending the photo shoot and Brad with Brad Olson Photography was willing to do anything.  They were all so wonderful to work with and the result is above and beyond my hopes.  I hope that you love the cover as much as I do.  I have some fun behind the scenes shoot pictures coming soon!

My New Obsession

Friday, March 21, 2014
Are you going to see Divergent tonight?  I was lucky enough to get to see a pre-screening on Wednesday and the movie is fantastic.  Here's the thing... I've never read the book *ducks for cover* That is the first time I've gone to see the movie before I've read the book, and I have to say, it made me want to read the books.  But I'm not going to (if you've read it and you want to know why I won't read them, message me and I'll spill, otherwise, I'm not telling.)

Anyway, another thing I felt walking away from the movie was a MAD MAD MAD LOVE for a Mr. Theo James.  Ladies.... you need to go see the movie just for him if you have no other reason to do so. I need to write a book with him in mind as my muse because MEOW MILLER LIKES!

Need more reason??

YOU'RE WELCOME!

So tell me, did you see the movie at midnight or are you going tonight?

Waiting IMPATIENTLY Wednesday

Wednesday, March 19, 2014
You may or may not know that I used to be a blogger.  Several years ago, one of my best friends, Espe and I started Late Bloomer Online.  We had an absolute blast.  We met so many amazing authors, readers, and fellow bloggers, and were fortunate enough to develop many friendships.  As a result, I learned so much about the book publishing industry, which helped me when it came time to publish my own novel.

One of the things I remember from my blogging days is the meme, Waiting on Wednesday.  I was going to do a post about some of my favorite books, and I think I still may, but it got me thinking about one of my favorites, so I decided today my post would be book specific.  I was going to share a link about this author's new book on facebook, but thought a mini feature would be more fun.  If this is something you like, let me know.  Maybe it will become a permanent ritual.

Those of you that follow my facebook posts know that Wendy Higgins is one of my FAVORITE authors.  Not only because I LOVE LOVE LOVE her Sweet Evil series and one sexy Kaidan Rowe, but because although I've yet to meet her in person, she seems like one of the nicest, supportive and just genuinely sincere people I've ever "met".  If you haven't read this series, oh my gosh, you are missing out.  Very few authors can write sex appeal and sexual tension like Wendy. I don't know how she does it, but Kaidan's character comes off the pages and I am SO in love with him. For real.  :)

*Fun fact - during my blogging days I made a count down widget for Wendy's book for her blog.*

I am so excited for her new book in the Sweet Evil series, Sweet Reckoning.  In fact, I posted that I was looking for someone to share their ARC with me.  I'm NOT a patient person - especially when it comes to waiting for release days.  Even my own!  Someone said they were going to mail it to me to read, but I never got it, so maddeningly I'm still waiting and dying a little each day while waiting with the rest of you.  Ugh!  LOL!

It may not come as any surprise that since I wrote contemporary romance, I don't read a whole lot of it, at least not when I'm writing.  Instead, I read a lot of paranormal romance which is probably my favorite genre.  I think in part because (another fun fact) the first book I ever tried to write was a paranormal romance.  I really envy the mind of author's that can make fantasy stories like that work. I envy their imaginations and the world they live in.

So, Sweet Reckoning is definitely my Waiting on Wednesday today, but it's also worth mentioning that Wendy just released a different book to tide people over until it's release.  Wasn't that nice of her :)  Her new novel is called SEE ME. I just ordered my copy, and you should too!  Here's the synopsis-

While most seventeen-year-old American girls would refuse to let their parents marry them off to a stranger, Robyn Mason dreams of the mysterious McKale in Ireland, wondering how he’ll look and imagining his cute Irish accent. Prearranged bindings are common for magical families like her own, however when she travels to the whimsical Emerald Isle she discovers there’s more to her betrothal and McKale’s clan than she was led to believe.

What starts as an obligatory pairing between Robyn and McKale morphs over time into something they both need. But one giant obstacle stands in the way of their budding romance: a seductive and deadly Fae princess accustomed to getting what she wants—and what she wants is McKale as her plaything. Love, desire, and jealousies collide as Robyn’s family and McKale’s clan must work together to outsmart the powerful Faeries and preserve the only hope left for their people.
(YA Urban Fantasy, Romance, Magical Realism, Irish Folklore)

I can't wait to read it.  It sounds fantastic!  So tell me, what is your current read or your waiting on Wednesday?

XOXO,
Jen

The Characters of Whispering Wishes

Wednesday, February 19, 2014
Hi everyone!  Look at me!  I'm blogging TWO times in a row!  Whoot!  I'm on a roll.  So today I thought I would share with you my actor inspirations for my work in progress.  If you haven't seen the interview where I was asked about what I'm working on next, let me tell you a little bit about Whispering Wishes, coming this spring.

Aspen thinks her best friend Mischa is a tiny bit loony.  Mischa is a new age hippie that owns her own metaphysical store.  In case you aren't aware of what New Age means, let me tell you what it means for Mischa - she believes that everyone should strive to awaken the god within themselves to bring peace and harmony to the world.  While Aspen is a cynic to Mischa's beliefs, she supports her friend and goes along with most of her little suggestions and encouragements.  One of them being the new moon list of wishes Mischa insists Aspen needs to create.  Her instructions?  On the night of the new moon, Aspen is to make a list of wishes - affirmations of what she wants in her life.  She should reflect on them, meditate on them and then burn it sending her wishes into the universe.  Aspen may not believe in it, but she heeds Mischa's wishes - besides what's the worst that can happen?

Whispering Wishes is a romantic comedy and I'm having fun writing it so far!  Here are the actors that remind me of my characters!

Main character - Aspen

The best friend - Mischa

The love interest - Wes

So what do you think???

I really need to write on this blog more often

Tuesday, February 18, 2014
With the new changes to Facebook, I think it is way past time I start writing on this here blog some more.  For some reason, I always forget about it.  I've promised before to write more, but I haven't kept to that, but I really am going to try this time.  I guess I'm just afraid that everyone will just find it boring - it's not like I have the most super exciting life or anything.  You'll probably be all...

I keep busy with my daughter's and their activities.  I also work full time and so I'm constantly trying to balance, work, my personal life and writing.  It can get pretty crazy to be honest, fortunately, I have an awesome husband who is an amazing father and he is there every step of the way, often times, doing what he can to give me time to write, etc.  So, while my posts may not always be super exciting, they will be a peek into my life and perhaps you can get to know me better through them.  If you want to :)  Some of them will likely contain lots of Supernatural gifs like these because well... I love the show, can't get enough of Sam, Dean and Castiel, and because they're....

Of course, all book news will be posted here as well.  Right now, I'm really busy writing Whispering Wishes.  This romantic comedy is a lot of fun and ideas will come to me that just make me laugh so much.  I really hope they make you laugh too when you read it!  I hope to start having little teasers as I write it here and there.

So tell me, what kind of things do you like to read on author's blogs?  Are there certain topics that you prefer or that you like to see?  I would love to hear from you!

I hope you all have a great day!  I will be back soon, and in the mean time, did you tune into the first Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon's last night?  This part, had me cracking up!

XO,
Jen

A little lie can change the course of everything. . .

Like every other eighteen-year-old in love, Olivia has dreams of spending forever with the love of her life. Luke is all she’s ever wanted – until she overhears something she was never meant to. In a matter of seconds, Olivia’s heart is shattered.  Handling it the only way she knows how - she runs- leaving behind her family, friends and the boy she loves.

Seeking comfort and an escape, Olivia finds it in resident bad boy Deacon. He’s everything Luke isn’t – and that’s fine with her.

Now, five years later, Olivia is older, wiser and headed back to Chicago looking forward to a fresh start and reconnecting with her best friend Pyper. What she doesn’t expect, is to come face to face with the boy she left behind and discover that even though she may have left, her feelings for him didn’t.

A Feeling Like No Other

Monday, April 1, 2013
I finally finished my first draft.   I was so close and I was up until the wee hours of the morning writing, writing, writing because I could just taste the ending.  I was so excited and I couldn't have fallen asleep even if I wanted to!

When it was done, I even typed the words "THE END" just for the symbolism and to experience typing them.  You see, I've always dreamed about writing a book.  Since I can remember I have been a book lover.  I got the book bug early in my youth and that love only continued to develop as did my taste in books, over time.  I would always have a book on my person somewhere.  I still do even now.  It may not always be a paperback but you will definitely find one I'm in the middle of on my  phone or iPad.  I can't get enough.

When I was about nine I entered a book writing contest in school.  It was about a girl with a pet unicorn and she was so sad when she had to return the unicorn to the wild and say good-bye.  I was one of the finalists for my school and I went to the state capital for the state competition.  I didn't win there, but still remember the excitement at going to the event with my mom and seeing my book proudly displayed with people walking by and looking at it.  I treasured my little book for years.  That is until my brother or sister, not sure which one was the culprit, got hold of it and made it their own little coloring book.  Brats!  (Love you two hooligans!)

I had more "great ideas" come to me than I can count over the years.  I started and stopped more stories than I care to admit sure that each time it was finally "the one."  But then out of nowhere, I had an idea that just wouldn't let me go.  I tried to ignore it, forget about it, kept remembering those other failed attempts and just blew it off.  The great thing is... it wouldn't let me.  That idea of mine was persistent, never letting up, never letting me forget and instead kept developing into more in my mind until I had no choice but to start writing it down.  It took on a life of its own.

As a great friend told me, I took what started as just an idea and had the power to create a story out of that idea on paper and made it work.  That's an awesome feeling.  The funny thing is when I finished, when I wrote those two little words, I was SO EXCITED!  The problem?  It was well after three o'clock in the morning and there was no one around to tell!  I didn't let that keep me from fist pumping and doing a happy dance though.  I even woke my husband to share the news and bless him, he was as excited as he could be at that hour!

I have no idea if people will love my little story.  I hope they do, of course I hope they do, but more importantly, I do.  I am SO in love with my story and my characters but the best part?  I followed my dream and accomplished something I've always wanted to try and so because of that, no matter what, I'm a winner.  And you want to know something?  It is a feeling like no other!
